Gus and Harriett Marinos

In testament to their love, Gus and Harriett Marinos, of Mountain Brook, passed away peacefully with 12 hours of each other at their home. They were married for over 63 years and were high school sweethearts. They are survived by their son, James (Angela) Marinos; daughter, Denise (Blake); Griffin; grandchildren, Douglas Griffin, Karen (Joe) Lovejoy, Cody (Olivia) Griffin, Larah Marinos, Jade (daughter Opal) Courington, Paige (daughter Kaliah) Watson; as well as Gus' sister, Tasia Paulk and Harriett's sister Maria (George) Andros; plus many nieces and nephews. Harriett Clio Nakos Marinos was born August 2, 1936 and passed on the afternoon of July 31, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Catherine Nakos; brother, Nolan Nakos and sister, Dempy (Tom) Campbell. Harriett graduated from Phillips High School and then obtained her Bachelor's of General Studies from Sanford University. Furthering her education, she obtained a Master's of Art in Counseling from UAB as well as being Certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. She dedicated her life to helping others even following her retirement. Harriett was a member of the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was President of the Philoptochos' Society. She loved spending time with family and was very proud of each and every one of them. Gus James Marinos was born July 30, 1933 and passed in the early hours of August 1, 2021, after a short battle with Multiple Myeloma. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Fannie Marinos. Gus attended Ramsay High School and UAB. He played baseball at Ramsay when they won the City Championship in 1950. He was an avid fan of Alabama Football and attended his first game in 1947 and continued going until 2015. Gus was a member of the Red Elephant Club and a Tide Pride Ticket Holder. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the AHEPPA club. After retiring in 2009 from Electrical Profession for 54 years, he enjoyed his days having coffee in the mornings with his friends, watching Alabama football but most importantly spending time with his family. They will be laid to rest together on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity - Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 307 19th Street South Birmingham, AL 35233. Fr. The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Parkinson's Association, The American Cancer Society or The Greek Church.
