Mrs. Catherine Jane Michaelis

Cathy Michaelis, age 66, of Berry, Alabama was born April 30, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Corwin and Carol Mitten. She passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife to her husband of over 39 years, Ken Michaelis. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and steadfast commitment to one another and to the Lord. She was a loving mother to her son, Antonio Michaelis and his wife, Katie. Cathy became a grandmother in 2017 and found immense joy in her role as Mémé to her precious granddaughters, Lina and Cece Michaelis. She delighted in their laughter, celebrated every milestone, and cherished every moment spent with them—whether reading together, baking treats, sharing stories, or simply embracing them with her boundless love. Her granddaughters were the lights of her life, and her heart will forever live in their memories. Cathy grew up in Ohio along with her sister, Carol Mitten, whose friendship she cherished through the years. Cathy looked forward to their weekly calls and conversations every Sunday afternoon. Cathy went on to graduate from the Ohio State University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to the U.S. Department of Defense as a program manager, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues for her leadership, diligence, and integrity. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Cathy was actively involved in Berry Church of Christ Church and enjoyed hobbies such as reading, painting, cooking, volunteering, and community service. She participated in Circle K/Kiwanis throughout her college years and brought joy to others through weekly church bingos. Her life was a testament to service, generosity, and love for others. Cathy is survived by her beloved husband, Ken Michaelis; her son, Antonio (Katie) Michaelis; her sister, Carol Mitten; her granddaughters, Catalina and Cecilia Michaelis; along with extended family and dear friends who will forever cherish her gentle spirit, faithful heart, and the endless love she shared as a grandmother. A celebration of the life of Cathy Michaelis will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11am, at Berry Baptist Church, 18010 AL-18 E, Berry, AL 35546. A memorial service in Ohio will be held Spring 2026 with details to be announced at a later date. Though we grieve her passing, we do not grieve without hope. We rejoice in the assurance that Cathy is healed, whole, and resting in eternal peace in the presence of her Savior.
